Diluting Oils
Not every oil can be applied undiluted. In fact, I’ve seen an essential oil remove the paint from a bar stool I painted. One drop landed on the stool and wasn’t wiped up. Later that day, a small circle of teal paint was missing from the stool and I could see the original varnish beneath it. That is a lot of power in one drop of oil. Knowing how to properly dilute the oils is part of understanding how to use essential oils safely. Here are some resources to help you.
Topical Application
Sun Sensitivity: Citrus oils should not be put on the body where they will be exposed to the sun within 12 hour of application. They can make us sensitive to the sunlight.
Bathing with Oils: Oils should first be added to epsom salt instead of adding them directly to bath water. The oils sit on top of the water and could possibly burn the skin.
Internal Usage
Some people do not recommend internal usage of essential oils. Please read the guidelines doTERRA suggests and make an informed decision for your family. In our home, we ingest them on a daily basis.
We only ingest them after eating a meal.
Please do not ingest any oils that are not doTERRA. Many of the essential oils on the market are not pure and are not safe to ingest.
Drinking Oils: When placed in water, essential oils float on the surface. We use these Life Factory bottles so we can shake them and not
Storage
Oils should be stored out of reach of young children.
Keep the oils out of direct sunlight and away from heat, as light and heat can alter the chemical structure of the oils and lessen their efficacy.
Pets
Avoid diffusing Melaleuca if you have small animals in the home.
