Skooly Conversion | Spray Foam Insulation

We have another skooly update!  The builder was kind enough to send more photos to us of the spray foam insulation.  We were supposed to head up this weekend and check out the build.  A tire issue on our Tahoe determined that would have to wait another weekend.  All is well!  I ended up getting sick and there is no place I would rather be than crashed on the couch.

If you haven’t been here before, here is a skooly build timeline.  This is the 5th installment.

Skooly Build Part 1: Repairs, Demo, Delays

Skooly Build Part 2: The first part of the skoolie builder’s work

Skooly Build Part 3: Framing

Skooly Build Part 4: Electric

Our insulation arrived at the builder’s home last week.  Did you know this stuff needs to stay warm?  Did you know you can’t use it when it is cold outside?  I am learning so many new things.  He stored it in his home, out of the cold weather, until he was ready to start spraying.

Before he could use the spray foam in our skoolie, he needed to clean out all of the old insulation.  This required all of the old insulation and glue to be scraped out with trowels, vacuumed up, and blown out.

Since it is a little cold right now, he needed to heat the bus up before he could spray the foam.  Luckily, he had a place to move it inside so he could heat it up faster.  Then, he used a turbo heater to get it to 70 degrees so everything would go smoothly with the spray foam.  Here it is, a work in progress:

And here is a final look at our skooly once the spray foam insulation was in.  He sprayed the foam 2 inches thick on the ceiling.  Hopefully, that will be enough to keep us warmer if we do end up in colder climates.  We don’t plan on being anywhere really cold, but even Florida has been known to be chilly in the winter at times.
