Skoolie Conversion | Vinyl Plank Flooring
Another update on our skoolie conversion and this time it is to show off the beautiful vinyl plank flooring! Full disclosure, the builder had these done before Christmas, but I’ve been over here hoarding pictures! If you are new here, make sure you check out the other steps of the skoolie build. Here they are in order:
Part 1: Repairs, Demo, Delays
Part 2: The first part of the skoolie builder’s work
Part 3: Framing
Part 4: Electric
Part 5: Insulation
And now! On to the vinyl plank flooring! Stay tuned until the end to see a cross-section of our floors!
Skoolie Vinyl Plank Flooring
Did you know you can help design our bus? We left the vinyl plank flooring color choice up to our Instagram friends. Make sure you check out our Instagram stories for chances to be a part of what we are doing. Right now, we are voting for wallpaper for the bathroom.
The choice was between gray and brown floors. Instagram chose gray, and we are thrilled with the decision.
We ended up finding the floors at Lumber Liquidators. They were discontinued and we snagged the last few boxes at our local location. We knew we wanted click together vinyl plank for a couple of reasons.
Reason 1
First, the bus is going to experience a lot of temperature changes. It is expected that the flooring will swell at times. The click together flooring seemed like the best option to handle this.
Reason 2
It also seemed like the best option to handle all of the movement it has to take on as we make our way across the United States in this skoolie. Click together means it will be able to move a little too and won’t buckle.
Also….
Reason 3
We got a great deal on this vinyl plank flooring! I could be rolling in money like Oprah and I’m still going to maintain my find a deal, shop the garage sales, and save your money mentality. It is hard for me to pay full price for items. The fact that this was a discontinued item meant we got a price cut! There were some other winning factors though.
Reason 4
Like the fact that it is waterproof! Here is a run down from Lumber Liquidators:
– Waterproof
– Top coat protects against scratches, dents, stains, and wear
– Rigid PVC core
– Phthalate-safe; all CoreLuxe products are Green Guard or FloorScore certified
Reason 5
At the end of the day, I also hoped they would photograph well. They do! I love how they look in the photographs we took during our recent visit. Before I show you the last couple of pictures…here is a shameless plug for The Explorer’s Notebook! Have you bought a copy yet? Ok…moving on…
It is hard to believe that this space was once covered in rust and almost made me cry. If any tears are happening now, they are tears of joy. I love how it is coming together and I can’t wait to get those cabinets painted. You guys also chose gray for those!
Last but not least, here is a look at the cross-section of our floors; foam insulation, sub floors, and our vinyl plank flooring. Next time I update you, you will start seeing some of the spray foam insulation being trimmed down and the walls going in. Thanks for following our journey!
